Healthcare Support (Birr)

Healthcare Support is a 30 week training programme that takes place in Birr. The course has a QQI level 5 accreditation.

This award gives learners the qualification that is a prerequisite for employment in the health and care sectors. Type of work available upon completion: Healthcare assistant, Homecare assistant, Personal assistant.

Entry Requirements:

  • Personal Skills: ability to communicate well, good manner and presentation and a conscientious attitude. A genuine interest in working in care and particularly with older people; the work experience element of the course will most likely take place in a residential setting for older people.
  • Good General Health: if successful at interview applicants will have to provide a medical clearance report from their GP.
  • Garda/ Police vetting
  • Three references
  • Candidates will be selected through an interview process

Course Eligibility:

These training programmes are primarily aimed at 18 – 35 year olds, but older applicants are welcome to apply and will be considered. N.B: suitable applicants in the 18 – 35 age group are given priority

This training programme is primarily for persons who may lack formal educational qualifications or who may have achieved less than 5D's in the Leaving Certificate

This Local Training Initiative includes a 40 day work practice placement. Garda vetting and medical clearance is required before participating in this training programme.
