'Good Food, Good Mood' Community Food Initiative

'Good Food, Good Mood' Community Food Initiative

 Tue, 20th Aug, 2019

Offaly Local Development Company held their first Community Food Initiative, ‘Good Food, Good Mood’ on Thursday 1st August at Birr Rugby Club. The event was designed to create a holistic overview of health and wellness with a focus on developing skills and knowledge that positively influence healthy eating and reduce food waste. Local service providers kindly hosted stalls to create awareness and interact with those who attended the event. There was input from StopFoodWaste, Money and Budgeting Services (MABS), Offaly Sports Partnership, HSE, Dental Health, Birr First Responders and a local Syrian Community Group. A full flow of entertainment was provided by Karen’s Zumba Divas, Birr/Crinkle Active Retirement and Jeca the Clown.
We had gorgeous food supplied by Birr LTI and the Step Up project. Niamh McKernan, the Community Food Initiative Leader said, ‘It was a beautiful sunny day which seen local people come together, eat healthy whilst having a cup of tea and a chat. I want to thank everyone who made the event possible including all Offaly Local Development staff and for all those who come along on the day. This event was funded by Safefood (managed by SECAD Partnership) and we are looking forward to our next event.’
