Community Wellness Event- Community Food Initiative in St. Broghans National School, Bracknagh

 Wed, 2nd Oct, 2019

On Friday 27th September, Offaly Local Development Company hosted their second Community Food Initiative in St. Broghans National School, Bracknagh.
The event was designed to create a holistic overview of health and wellness with a focus on developing skills and knowledge that positively influence healthy eating.
This event saw all the pupils, their teachers and parents taste lots of yummy healthy alternatives and gave excellent ideas for healthy snacks/lunchboxes. Local organisations helped make this event a huge success despite the best efforts of the rain. We had Offaly Sports Partnership complete an array of physical activities with the kids which they loved. The Dental Health team from Trinity College, Dublin demonstrated how best to keep their teeth clean and provided free toothbrushes and toothpaste for each person in the audience. Food and Health, Laois Partnership provided a range of yummy smoothies which went down treat and local Cardiac Responders provided an excellent demonstration and presentation of CPR which everyone got involved in! Last but not least, we were entertained by Jeca the Clown for the afternoon with his funny antics. All in all, there certainly was something for everybody and without a doubt made this event a brilliant success!
Niamh McKernan, the CFI leader wishes to thank everyone who made the event possible and for all those who come along on the day including Members of Offaly LCDC and Offaly County Council Community Section. Moreover, this event would not have happened only for the funding provided by Safefood (managed by SECAD Partnership) so a big thank you goes to them too.
If you wish to get involved in the next event or indeed any other local events/groups, you can get in touch with Niamh on 087 7799853 or via email nmckernan@offalyldc.ie.
