The Landscaping and Horticulture course commenced in October of 2011 and is based in the redeveloped secondary school in Banagher now known as St.Rynagh’s College of Further Education (see below) It is a L.T.I or Local Training Initiative, ran and funded by Solas (formally Fás) with further funding and support provided by Offaly Local Development Company. The course runs twice yearly for a total of 26 weeks and it is a Fetac Level 4 Major award.

Course Aims/Awards

• The course is aimed at 18-35 year olds in the local area that are experiencing barriers accessing the labour market, mainstream education or educational programmes.
• The course aims to give opportunities to the high level of unemployed in Offaly to gain a formal education and a chance to progress to employment or self-employment.
• To provide skills in landscaping and horticulture. Practical training is carried out in the gardens of St.Rynagh’s College in Banagher
• To provide valuable experience in horticultural/construction related employment.
• A level 4 Fetac Major Award in Horticulture



Course Eligibility

• Applicants must have reached the statutory school leaving age.
• This training programme is primarily for persons who have no formal educational qualifications, or for persons who have achieved less than 5D’s in the Leaving Certificate.
• Primarily aimed at 18-35 year olds.
