From over 300 nominations, 30 exceptional volunteers have been shortlisted for this year’s Volunteer Ireland Awards including Martin Dolan from Offaly. Martin, along with the rest of Ireland’s unsung heroes, will be celebrated at a special ceremony in City Hall, Dublin on 2nd December.

Martin Dolan's passion for Ferbane GAA Club is second to none. His core aim is the promotion of sport participation in his club and he loves to capture the enthusiasm and goodwill that sporting success engenders in his community as a whole. Martin is unable to participate in GAA sports due to a medical condition but this never deterred him from becoming involved with the various teams.

He recently purchased a van out of his personal savings to carry club equipment. Apart from his role as kit man, Martin delves himself wholeheartedly into Club fundraising. He is the top lotto seller in the Club spending approximately 5 hours every week selling tickets.

Commenting on the shortlist for the Volunteer Ireland Awards, Offaly Volunteering Information Service Coordinator Steve O’Donohue said “We are thrilled to celebrate Martin and his dedication to Ferbane GAA Club. Thousands of people volunteer across the country each day and they really are the unsung heroes that drive our communities. This is a chance for us to recognise Martin’s contribution and really celebrate volunteering in Ireland. Thanks to volunteers such as Martin, Ireland is ranked number one in Europe on the World Giving Index and Offaly should be proud of the part it has played.”
